Crochet: Black & Brown Mini Cowl

I've been thinking of other things to blog about besides crochet. I have other subjects, but after I think of them I get tired and cbf so here's some more crochet... I'm also reading, but I'm taking my time doing it.

I'm beginning to question whether I should sell my crocheted items and then donate the money to charity. At this rate, with lockdown and season changes, I don't think any of my crochet is going anywhere for awhile. I did decide to put everything I made into storage for donation next Winter, but the more I think about it the more it bugs me. I don't have that much storage lol

I could have a break from crochet, but what madness do we live in where that's an option?

Challenge Item #9: Black & Brown Mini Cowl

Description

This is a cute, chunky, ribbed mini cowl at just the right size to be able to fold it in half and cover your neck with warmth. As I'm trying to use up all my yarn I ran out of black, yay, and ended up making the project half black and half brown.

The dimensions come to 26cm (10.2 inches) x 30cm (11.8 inches) when unrolled and laid flat.

Hook Size and Yarn

Hook: 9 M/N  Yarn: Finally. Finally, I was able to use up the last of what was left of the Lion Brand Heartland Thick & Quick in Black Canyon and almost all of what was left of it in Sequoia.

For those who haven't read my previous posts about my crochet using this yarn; I love this yarn because of it's softness, it's heft, and it's ability to work-up quickly. Seriously, if you ever want a project to finish in a couple of hours than definitely go with this one. The only issue I have with it is, when worked enough, the yarn develops the fluff on it like a worn woollen jumper.

Pattern: Once again I dispensed with anyone's pattern and went with my own. You can check it out here as it is the same as the last crocheted project.

Overall

To me these kind of things are really just a quick and easy thing to make when you're in a rut. I was in a rut after trying to make something out of tape yarn. I made placemats, years ago, out of tape yarn, and was going to make a matching tablecloth. I thought better of it and now have a shit tonne of tape yarn. After the frustration of attempting to make something and not getting anywhere, creating some mini cowls calmed me.

I like it. I wasn't sure about the brown and black at first, but I think it's really cute. I'm giving it to my mum, but given it's lockdown at the moment she probably won't get it till Spring 😏

Project also posted to my Ravelry and Instagram.
