I mentioned I needed a break from the yarn I was using in my last post so I've switched and it's been very satisfying. After this scarf though I might stick to cowls, but I am contemplating making my own scarf next. I dunno. Whatever mood strikes when I start my next project I guess.
I finished this scarf before we went into lockdown. While the temptation to just sit and crochet, as I binge shows, is great it's not something I'm a fan of doing during a stay at home order. Take it from someone who had a good 8 year stint of being housebound; variety is the spice of life when it comes to hobbies and keeping preoccupied.
Description
This ribbed scarf is lovely and soft, with a heft to it thanks to the chunky yarn. The colour is black with flecks of greyish silver, but it's best to be up close to see these flecks otherwise the scarf just looks like a textured black from a distance. The dimensions come to 220cm (86inches) long by 22cm (8.6inches) wide.
Hook Size and Yarn
Hook: 9mm/M/N Yarn: I used Lion brand Heartland Thick and Quick in Black Canyon. I both love and dislike this yarn. It's wonderfully soft to work with, it works up fast, it's worm, but I forget how stretchy it is! This is an acrylic yarn with a great deal of stretch. I don't work with it often so I do forget I have to counteract the stretchiness. To have an idea, the scarf is 220cm long when I was aiming for 190cm.
I'm making a note for myself about how to counteract it in future, but I'm yet to actually try this method. The yarn calls for a 9mm hook so next time I'm going to opt for an 8mm hook. As for length I'll shorten that too. If I'm aiming for 190cm, for instance, I think I'll take off 15cm just to trial it.

Overall
I love it, of course. What's not to love? She's a thick and warm scarf. That's just how I like it. I love the heaviness too, it makes you feel like you've really made something. Urgh, so satisfying. I have decided I do not like working lengthways with scarves. My very first scarf I did lengthways and I don't wear it.
Even though, from my first scarf experience, I learnt to adjust the tension on the foundation row... I feel like there's always going to be a tightness to the foundation compared to the rest of the project no matter what you do or how good you are at adjusting tension.
Yes, my foundation is a chain stitch and I know there's a foundation crochet stitch to help with the issue, but can you believe it? I still haven't learnt it! One day, when I'm less easily distracted.
